YoYo Games has signed a deal with Nintendo, which means that GameMaker games will be able to be exported directly to Nintendo Switch, which has evolved into one of the best platforms for indie development since it’s launch.
GameMaker is expanding its already significant reach to developers looking to release on the hugely successful console that can be played anytime, anywhere, with anyone. First launched by YoYo Games in March 2017, GameMaker Studio 2 has seen continual growth since its release, and it is ready to take another step forward by forging a partnership with Nintendo. This will culminate with the launch of the GameMaker Studio 2 Nintendo Switch edition in summer, 2018.
This is of course awesome news for indie developers looking to expand their reach. The Switch is big (not that I ever would have guessed how big when it launched), it’s accessible to multiplayer, and it’s portable, meaning that there are a HUGE number of games that have already been published that should be able to find an audience on the Switch, and of course a ton of yet released games that can use it as a new avenue.
