During the Kinda Funny Games Showcase, publisher Ysbyrd Games and developer Ackk Studios revealed that their upcoming title, YIIK: A Postmodern RPG, will be coming to PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, PC, and Mac on January 17, 2019, with a PlayStation Vita release some time later in 2019.
The developer has provided a summary of the story:
After witnessing a woman vanish from an elevator, college graduate Alex embarks on an adventure to rescue her, which spirals into an epic quest with stakes higher than he could have ever imagined.
Alex’s search for the woman and the truth behind her disappearance lead him and his companions towards the new millennium, on a journey rife with mystery and danger… or so goes the tale of YIIK: A Postmodern RPG, the surreal Japanese-style RPG from Ackk Studios and Ysbryd Games.
Over time players will gain a party of up to eight characters as they venture through dungeons filled with puzzles to solve, traps to avoid, and monsters to fight. Players will also have the chance to battle with a variety of weapons to use against a plethora of enemies in a mixture of turn based and mini game combat in a similar vein to the Paper Mario series.
YIIK is said to have over 30 hours of content including a fully-voiced story which features voice actors Chris Niosi (also known as Kirbopher), Clifford Chapin (My Hero Academia), and more.
Additionally, the soundtrack includes contributions from notable video game composers Toby Fox (Undertale) and Hiroki Kikuta (Secret of Mana) and a variety of different blended genres of music.
