The PAX East Indie Showcase

The PAX East Indie Showcase

Pax East 2016 is just over a week away, and while the majority of our time is going to devoted to the Indie MEGABOOTH, various Indie Developer booth, the Indie Minibooth and the PAX Rising Booth, we did want to bring attention to six very special indie games:

These are the six games that make up the PAX East Indie Showcase, a collection of  the best indie games you’ve never heard of available on mobile platforms”. Our focus at IndieHangover tends towards PC, but Mobile games hold a special place in our hearts, for a variety of reason. While there’s certainly a focus on puzzle games (with three of the six showcase games being puzzle games), it’s nice to see some real variety. We’ve seen Antihero before at last years Indie Minibooth, and it’s a superb strategic, 4X game that wasn’t something I expected to see on the mobile platform.

Here is a brief rundown of the six games, as detailed by PAX themselves. We’ll be back with our impressions on the games after we’ve cleared post-PAX recovery!

A Tofu Tail

Developer: alchemedium

A Tofu Tail is a whimsical, narrative-driven puzzle game about a man-turned-tofu by a deceptive fox spirit, the Kitsune. Help Mr. Tofu find his true form as he fights his way across 100+ levels in the surreal Kitsune maze realms! The unique hand-drawn art style, extensive retro(ish) soundtrack, and challenging maze puzzles will have you second guessing your assumption that this is a standard block roller! And don’t let Mr. Tofu know your doubt – he can’t help his forced cuboid appearance!

Antihero

Developer: Tim Conkling

Fast-paced strategy with an (Oliver) Twist. Run a thieves’ guild in a gas-lit city overrun by corruption and greed. (Single-player and asynchronous multiplayer.)

ShadowBug

Developer: Muro Studios

Shadow Bug is a new kind of platformer game for mobile with emphasis on adventure and speedrunning. The control scheme of the game is specifically designed for touch screens. You play as Shadow Bug and try to stop the evil factory from polluting your forest home. You do this by tapping on enemies and slicing them to pieces.

Thumb Drift

Developer: SMG Studio

Get sideways and burn rubber in the ultimate endless drifter; Thumb Drift.

Whether you know how to drift or not, you’ll enjoy sliding sideways around the corners to compete for the highest score.

Unmatch

Developer: Andrew J. Adams

Unmatch is a mobile puzzle game about not matching. Separate similarly colored hexagons to complete puzzles, and reveal the potential patterns that chaos can provide. Open your mind to the power of diversity and understanding that similarity is not the only way to organize. Stop matching, Unmatch.

Have your say!
