With Rain World, the Boston indie scene is once again showing they’re an amazing hub full of talented creators, programmers and musicians. This gloomy, haunting and stylish platformer is the brain child of artist Joar Lisberg Jakobsson, whose style and DNA can be seen throughout every pixel of of their gameplay video. With gamers flocking to similar campaigns like Heart Machine’s Hyper Light Drifter, it’s easy to see that Rain World’s slugcat hero will end up with more than enough funding in the coming month.
Rain World is set in an abandoned industrial environment scourged by a shattered eco-system. Bone-crushing intense rain pounds the surface regularly, making life as we know it almost impossible. The creatures in this world hibernate most of the time, but in the few brief dry periods they go out searching for food. You are a lonely nomadic slugcat, both predator and prey in this land. You must hunt enough food to survive another cycle of hibernation. Other – bigger – creatures have the same plan.
Now go… feast on some bat wings and do your best to stay out of the rain.
