As IndieHangover has evolved, we’ve become more and more interested in the most underrepresented of Indie Games, the indies that have a particularly hard time finding an audience in the marketplace, or present a viewpoint that’s atypical for the genre currently. The stories these types of indies tell are diverse, emotional and heartfelt, and that’s always amazing to explore and investigate.
We’ve also tried to grow our partnerships with the groups and organizations that help support these projects and devs (most recently Friendship Garden out of NYC). So, we wanted to help shine a light on the NEXT Exhibit that’ll be at this year’s PAX Aus on October 26tt through the 28th.
NEXT Exhibit a showcase highlighting the work of queer, PoC and otherwise underrepresented developers at the forefront of what games can do, front and centre at Australia’s largest consumer games event. We’re moving diversity beyond the “101” discussions and into the public eye. These games exploring issues like mental health, trans representation, serious illness, and autism will be one of the first things PAX Aus attendees will see upon entering the expo.
The lineup for the NEXT Exhibit was just announced (thus this article), and it’s a fantastic set of games:
Before I Forget

Romance your swords! Capture the hearts of weapons (m, f, nb) to level them up in this “shack-and-slash” dungeon crawling adventure. Forge relationships and save Love itself! Created by Kitfox Games.
An Aspie Life
An experimental adventure game about life with autism. “The player’s actions in the game will have to adapt to how an autistic person sees the world.” Made by EnderLost Studio.
