Back in 1998 the gaming world was changed with the release of Unreal, a first person shooter (FPS) game set in a sci-fi universe. The game was rather successful, but the real accomplishment for Epic Games was the Unreal Engine that they designed to power their creation. Since it’s first release the Unreal Engine has been used in a plethora of games mostly of the FPS variety, but that trend is beginning to change.
Yesterday it was announced that Korean owned NCSoft, the publisher of games like Guild Wars, Aion, and Lineage, announced that they have licensed the Unreal Engine 4 for use in some of their up coming projects. While NCSoft has used the Unreal technology in their previous Lineage II game, this new agreement could mean big things for the world of online gaming. This also makes NCSoft the first Korean studio to license the latest and greatest from Epic.
There is no word at this time as to what projects will be making use of the engine, but we can expect some exciting things in the next few years!
