Dwarf Fortress has always been a game I’ve admired and feared. I’ve been told many a tale of misadventures in the game, but with its intense level of control and less-than-easy-to-understand ASCII style graphics, I’ve never taken the plunge. However, with the recent announcement that Bay 12 Games and Kitfox Games are teaming up to release Dwarf Fortress on Itch.io and Steam in the near future, with massive audio and visual updates, I feel like it’s time to dive in!
We were very lucky to have the opportunity to talk with Tarn Adams, one half of Bay 12 Games and one of the developers of Dwarf Fortress. In this interview we discuss the game’s history, it’s upcoming move to steam and itch.io and what drew Tarn into the world of independent video game development.
Our thanks to Tarn for taking the time to talk with us and share his story.
