INVERSUS immediately stood out to me when I first saw it at PAX East 2016. The contrasting black and white tiles of the game are clean and clear, and the whole game looks deceptively easy. As I picked up a controller at the invitation of developer Ryan Juckett, and started actually playing, it soon become painfully obvious that this was a much more strategic game than I originally anticipated.
The simple and well defined mechanics formed a fantastic foundation upon which a complex back and forth sort of gameplay was played over complex levels that reward quick reaction and awareness.
INVERSUS launches on August 16th, on both PlayStation 4 and Steam. We had the pleasure of talking to Ryan about the game’s design, what brought him to indie development, and how it feels looking back at the game from the finish line in this week Indie Dev Interview:
Our thanks to Ryan for taking the time before launch to talk to us and give us some insight into his indie dev story.
