Sometimes, a game comes along that you’re surprised no one has thought up of before now. Maybe it’s a mechanic, or an art style, or maybe it’s the very atmosphere and setting of the game. I know I’ve said this before, and it’s part of the reason that people flock to indie games: Indie Development lends itself to off-the-wall and innovative ideas in many forms.
Between Heartbeats is one of these games. Being developed by Blimbu Games, Between Heartbeats is a side scrolling shot em up set inside the human body. It’s a brilliant setting for a side scrolling shooter and I wasn’t surprised to learn it was the product of a Game Jam (Global Game Jam 2013 in this case); Game Jams always seem to produce a couple of those “Why didn’t I think of that!” ideas or concepts.
Jake Willey, the Managing Director at Blimbu Games, and a Designer and Programmer on Between Heartbeats agreed to take some time to sit down with us, talk about the development of this idea, their goals with the game, and the approach they’re taking to secure funding.
Between Heartbeats will be coming to IndieGoGo on July 25th, and if you’d like to help support them, you can check out their Headtalker or Thunderclap pre-IndieGoGo campaigns. Blimbu Games is looking to publish the game on all major platforms: PC, Xbox One, PS4, and the Wii U.
