INSIDE, That Dragon Cancer Win at 2016 Game Awards

Last night, the 2016 Game Awards took place, full of pomp, forced commercialism and a very strange promotional razor-transformer man. We wanted to take the time to recognize a few of the Indie Game winners from the evening.

That Dragon, Cancer, created by Ryan and Amy Green, won the Games for Impact Award (which was a category entirely occupied by indie games. Good sign if you ask us). The celebration of their son Joel’s life and 4 year fight with childhood cancer, That Dragon, Cancer is a game that has redefined the emotional impact video games can have. The presentation of the award and Ryan’s incredibly moving acceptance speech begin at 1:36, and it really is worth a watch.


Playdead’s INSIDE won the award for Best Art Direction. As we stated in our review of INSIDE, the animation, atmosphere and audio design of INSIDE were all top notch, so this is hardly surprising. INSIDE also won the award for Best Indie Game.
