Chucklefish Limited and Shanghai-based developer Pixpil have announced Eastward, a science fiction adventure with RPG elements inspired by EarthBound, The Legend of Zelda, and 90’s anime, will be released on PC and Mac. A specific release date has not yet been announced.
In Eastward, the human population is on the brink of extinction when a digger named John finds a strange girl named Sam in an underground facility. Their meeting then leads them on a journey throughout the world to find an unknown area and perhaps discover Sam’s origin.
Eastward will feature puzzle-solving, a compelling cast of characters, monsters to fight against, futuristic cities to travel between, a distinct pixel art style, and a soundtrack by Joel Corelitz (Hohokum, Gorogoa). It will also be Pixpil’s debut title and was first announced on Steam Greenlight.
